The map viewer has just been updated. This update includes some minor changes to the site along with a new tool and new basemap options.
The labels and boundaries layers are now turned off in the layer list as the default when opening the viewer. To turn these back on, go to the layer list and tick the box next to these layers.
The add local data tool allows you to add shapefiles, GPX files and CSV files to the map. While this is very similar to the add data tool, the add local data tool offers more functionality when adding csv files to the map.

These new basemaps are the first vector basemaps to be added to Canterbury Maps. Vector basemaps are a new technology that have many benefits.
