Description
This app presents live rainfall, flow, and water level data for the Canterbury Region. It presents the same data that is available via the
Rainfall Data and
River Flow Data tables on the Environment Canterbury webpage, but in a spatial format.
Rainfall data is presented in 4 different layers:
- Rain last hour - total rainfall depth recorded in the last hour
- Rain today - total rainfall depth recorded in the current calendar day
- Rain yesterday - total rainfall depth recorded in the previous calendar day
- Rain 7 day total - total rainfall depth recorded in the previous 7 days + the current calendar day
The rainfall layers all use dynamic symbology, with the symbol colour for each site depicting the amount of rain recorded. The classes and colours used for each layer are visible in the legends.
Water level sites are split into 2 different layers:
- Current flow - flow for sites that are rated for flow
- Current water level - water level for sites that are not rated for flow
Both layers use dynamic symbology, with the arrow direction reflecting the change in water level over the last hour (arrow up = 20 mm increase, arrow down = 20 mm decrease, arrow horizontal = change < 20 mm).
The current flow layer also uses different colours to indicate if the flow is less than a mean annual flood flow (blue) or greater than a mean annual flood flow (red).
The view layers used in this app can be added to other ESRI web maps and apps. If they are added via the 'Add Data' widget, or opened in a map viewer via the links below, the symbology, labels, pop-ups etc. will appear as they do in this app. However, this will not be retained if the layers are added via URL.
