Original 2013 Bylaws
The Flood Protection and Drainage Bylaw was made operative on 2 April 2013 and provides for the ongoing management and effective operation of flood protection and drainage works that are owned or controlled by Environment Canterbury. These include drainage schemes, flood protection schemes, floodways and areas of flood protection vegetation constructed and maintained to prevent damage, danger, or distress to the community from river flood or poor drainage. People undertaking activities within the vicinity of these flood protection or drainage works will require an Authority from Environment Canterbury where the activity could impact on the integrity or efficient operation of the works. There is currently no fee for applying for an Authority and further information can be found here:
